Q66084 IgnoreInstalledEMM=yes Not Working Properly with Windows 3.00
Microsoft Windows 3 Retail Product (WIN3)
3.00
MS-DOS
Summary:
The line IgnoreInstalledEMM=yes in the [386enh] section of the
SYSTEM.INI is designed to make Microsoft Windows ignore any unknown
external expanded memory manager. This does not work properly in
Windows version 3.00.
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information
here as it becomes available.
More Information:
The message "ERROR: Cannot install the 386 enhanced mode Expanded
Memory driver" will be displayed after the opening logo screen if an
expanded memory manager has been loaded in the CONFIG.SYS that is not
designed specifically to work with Windows 3.00 in enhanced mode. This
will occur if the line IgnoreInstalledEMM= is set to either yes or no.
Workaround
----------
Boot the machine with a CONFIG.SYS that does not load an expanded
memory manager when you desire to use Windows 3.00 in it's enhanced
mode.
